Dear America,
You’re 236 years old today! But don’t worry, compared to some of your other country friends, you’re a baby! You’ve been through a lot, though, in your short(ish) existence. You’ve grown, changed, and overcome many things. America, you are a great country. I feel so, so blessed to be a citizen of your great nation and I’m lucky to know so many strong, brave people who have risked so much to keep you safe. No, you’re not perfect, but what place is? As far as I can see, Utopia only exists in myths.
What will you wish for when you blow out your candles? I’d like to think that you will wish for unity, respect, and appreciation from all your citizens, no matter their political affiliation, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or socioeconomic standing. I’d like to think you will wish that today, above all days, on your birthday, your citizens will remember that deep down they really aren’t all that different. They’re all Americans…and that’s a pretty great thing to be!
Well, I’m off to raise a glass (or two) in your honor!
Happy Birthday America and God bless. Make it a good one!
A proud American,
