What Should I Wear: Summer BBQ Edition

Memorial Day is right around the corner and that means lots of BBQ’s and time outside! While I am not one to stick to the hard and fast rules about what you can and can’t wear before Memorial Day, I still consider it the gateway weekend into summer (and summer wardrobe style).

If you’re like me and haven’t packed away all your sweaters, make some time in your schedule and room in your attic. Bring on white jeans, breezy dresses and colorful tunics! I like to keep things simple in summer and one of my fave  staples is the perfect, classic white tee. I just bought a fabulous new one from Banana Republic. Style and fit are perfection!

Here it is dressed down, and up, for all your BBQ wardrobe needs!

P.S. I have both of these bottoms and love them!

What Should I Wear: The New Orleans Edition

Later this week I will be jetting off to New Orleans. While this is primarily a business trip, there will be lots of time for fun. One of my oldest, and dearest friends, lives in NOLA and I am so excited to see her and her fabulous fiance (and use them as my own personal tour guides). The hubs is accompanying me, he’s a great helper, and having him along makes it like a little vacation. Let’s be real, attending a health and fitness expo and marathon is fun, fun, fun, even when it’s for work.

I’ve never been to New Orleans so it’s extra exciting to cross off another place on my “Must Visit” list. I’m dreaming of beignets at Cafe DuMonde, jazz and blues music on Bourbon Street, beautiful French Quarter achitecture, and spicy cajun food.

The weather is going to be high 60′s to mid 70′s each day. The forecast calls for a little rain, a few of the days, and I think layering is going to be the name of the game.

Here’s a look at some of my packing highlights:

1. Nordstrom Cashmere Wrap, 2. J. Crew Cardigan, 3. J. Crew Cardigan, 4. J. Crew Top, 5. Paige Premium Denim Jeans, 6. Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag, 7. J. Crew Top, 8. J. Crew Cafe Capri, 9. Mango Leather Jacket (I have one similar), 10. Tory Burch Reva, 11. Sam Edelman Gigi

Can you tell I’m having a leopard and stripes moment? This is by no means all I am packing. I am a tragically bad over-packer. Throw in some layering T’s, a dress or two, some boots and heels, jewelry, workout gear, my underthings and toiletries, and we’re getting closer to what my final haul will be. And I thought for a moment I might just bring a carry-on. Silly Brie…

Going anywhere exciting soon??

What Should I Wear? The Big Game Edition

It’s that time of year. NFL playoff mania is sweeping the country. We’re down to the last eight teams and things are getting intense (don’t say the word Tebow, or even Tim, to any Steelers fans) . I’ll be spending much of my weekend watching football. On Saturday, I’ll watch the Brocos to see if the angel on the aforementioned Tim Tebow’s shoulder makes a reappearance. On Sunday, I’ll watch the Ravens because I’m from Maryland and I bleed purple and black!

I’ve taken many things into consideration when planning out my big game outfit. I need to be comfortable to jump around and pace easily (I have trouble sitting still during tense game moments). I need to be stylish (just because I’m doing something “sporty” doesn’t mean I want to look like a schluby schlub). I need to represent (this is a big game for my team!).

Even if your team’s still not in it (or you don’t even really know what a first down is, I’m looking at you mom), you probably have a friend, family member, significant other or third cousin twice removed who’s dragging you to watch the game.

So here’s some ideas of what to wear…

1. Ray Rice Jersey, 2. OPI Purple with a Purpose, 3. Juicy Couture Four Leaf Clover Earrings (for good luck), 4. Hue Leggings, 5. Steven by Steve Madden Intyce Boots, 6. Nordstrom Tissue Weight Cashmere Wrap

49 ers , Broncos, Patriots, Texans, Packers, Giants, Saints

Who will you be rooting for? What will you wear?

What Should I Wear? Christmas Dinner Edition

Holy moly, Christmas is in 3 days. I finally finished my shopping and got a good jump on the wrapping. Now it’s time to figure out what to wear (I hear showing up naked to Christmas dinner is ill-advised). My family keeps it relatively casual, so I’m not going to break out the sequins or black tie. That doesn’t mean, however, that I’m showing up in sweats (even though they conveniently allow for comfortable over-eating).

Here are some festive items I’m considering…

Lots of options to mix and match!

1. Remain Sweater Poncho

I love the look of this poncho. It’s ever so slightly sheer, so it won’t weigh you down as you try to stuff your face, and it has a flattering silhouette.

2. J Brand Lovestory Jeans

I have been crushing on these jeans for a while. Between the dark wash, flattering flare cute and stretch denim, I’m in love(story). They look great on lots of shapes.

3. J. Crew Cambridge Cable Chunky Turtleneck Sweater

A classic winter look. A little preppy, a little snuggly, this sweater comes in lots of colors to suit any mood!

4. Kate Spade Karen Pump

Gorgeous patent pumps with just enough platform.

5. Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings

These beauties are a great statement piece, but not too big to be overdone. Available in a lot of colors they can match any outfit.

6. Michael Kors Runway Rose Gold Watch

This watch has been seen everywhere this season (blogs, celebs, TV). Another great statement piece that will go with everything.

7. Stuart Weitzman Kilgore Suede Booties

Part pump and part bootie, these will look great with jeans or a skirt and black tights. The hidden platform, and slightly cushioned leather footbed, means they will be easy on your feet while still giving you inches.

8. J. Crew Heartherstone Snood

This infinity scarf works under coats or jackets or simply over a sweater. Keeps you warm and stylish. I like this one because it’s not too big and not too small.

9. Guinevere Owl Earrings

Owls are so in right now! These cute little, stud earrings add some character to a basic outfit.

10. J. Crew Bubble Necklace

This is the real deal; a piece that will instantly add style to any outfit. The hand-set resin cabachons and 18K gold plate make it a quality piece that you will wear for years.

What are you going to wear??

What should I wear? Gym Edition.

What to wear when you’re sweating it out at the gym…

When you look good you feel good (I came up with that saying myself). I think this especially applies to the gym (hello, there’s like 500 mirrors there). If you’re confident in the way you look while working out, you’re going to feel good about yourself and your workout will reflect that!

Leave the hair and make-up for happy hour. The gym is for sweating, but your clothes can at least look darn cute while doing it.

Workout clothes should combine style and function. Today’s best options couple the latest fashion trends with high-tech fabric that helps hold you in, keep you dry and improve your performance. So, ditch your baggy t-shirts (you don’t even remember where you got that thing), slouchy sweats (not a good look for anyone’s butt) and ancient sports bras (keep those puppies in check). Here are some great replacement options.

lululemon Groove Pant

lululemon Groove Pant (click to buy)

I don’t care what your religious affiliation, these pants are a gift from God. Made of lululemon’s signature luon fabric, they simultaneously hold you in and make you look good while being crazy comfortable. The groove pant is only one of many lululemon styles, but the flattering bootcut leg and variety of colors and patterns make it a great option for anyone. Really short or really tall? No problem lulu will hem them for free and also offers a tall size.  A little pricy at $98, but these are an investment piece, you know Birkin, Louboutins, Groove pant…

Coco Designs Bra*Kette

Coco Designs Bra*Kette (click to buy)

This sports bra from the small, Maryland-based company, Coco Designs, is the latest and greatest when it comes to protecting your, umm, assets. No, it’s not mainstream, but it should be a mainstay in any active woman’s closet. My favorite thing about it? It stays in place! No annoying bunching up under the girls. I don’t have to stop and pull it down every 5 seconds. My second favorite thing? It has a small pocket on one side that’s perfect for your iPod. Great for running, jumping, dancing, prancing or whatever you like to do to stay in shape!

Under Armour UA Tech T-Shirt

Under Armour UA Tech T-Shirt (click to buy)

Crafted from a UA Tech fabrication (that’s Under Armour lingo for feels like cotton, but still wicks moisture), these semi-fitted shirts are the perfect cut to flatter anyone. With all the color options to choose from, and a friendly price tag, you can wear a different one every day of the week. I love the long length and V-neck.

lululemon City to Yoga Jacket

lululemon City to Yoga Jacket (Sold out online)

Now I don’t actually own this, but I’ve tried it on enough times that it feels like I do. It’s on my Christmas list (I hope Santa shopped early ’cause it’s sold out online). Here is the perfect example of style and function. Cute, on-trend ruffles meet awesome fabric and fit.  The perfect item to wear to and from the gym or on a run now that the temps have dropped. Lululemon has a variety of cute jackets and hoodies so if you can’t track this one down there are many more to choose from.
