BoddyBug: Week 2

Right about now you are probably saying “oh jeez, is this going to be a weekly thing now?”  Well, yes, yes it is. For one, it keeps me motivated to know I will be sharing my progress with all of you, and second, I’m really seeing and feeling some great stuff that I want to pass along!

The biggest thing I love about the BB, is that it keeps me accountable. Every night I log my food and hook up the arm band piece to load in my calories burned and I really want to see that calorie deficit goal come up on my screen.

“Not now Chief, I’m in the F****** zone!” (Name that viral video)

Lucky for me, I am the kind of person that once I get into the proverbial zone, on the train, or up on the wagon (you get my drift), I am really good at sticking to it. Now that I am past day 14, I am really in it to win it!

  • I no longer feel hungry. All. The. Time. My body has definitely adjusted to a stricter calorie intake. Most days, I am well below my 1650 calorie intake goal.
  • I’ve found that happy place of eating to fuel my body to perform at its best without blowing my calorie count.
  • After seeing which workouts burn what, I’ve left long, steady cardio sessions completely behind in favor of intense circuits, running, and intervals.
  • Instead of sitting all day at work , I get up at lunch, and move. Mid-day walks have become my norm.
  • The more progress I see, the more I’m committed to my new lifestyle.
  • You don’t have to give up everything you love (in my case that means cocktails) you just have to PRIORITIZE.

So what’s my progress so far??

I’ve lost 10 pounds and I feel better than I have in months!

I’m so excited about my progress (I’m literally jumping for joy)!

Hump Day Happiness

And just like that, here we are…in June. Summer is (un)officially here!

Here’s a few a bunch of things bringing me happiness on this Wednesday, I hope they bring you some too!

Longer days – I love getting home after work, and the gym, and still having a few evening hours of light left. I can tend to my flowers, take Penny for a walk, and just enjoy that beautiful glow the sky gets on summer nights.

Mr. Moon in a late-evening sky

Whole Fruit Frozen Pops – These things have been my savior recently. They are the one “indulgence” I have been allowing myself. The Apple-Grape flavor totally make my day. At only 60 calories, and the most amazing flavor, you can’t beat them!

Gender Reveal Parties - My adorable preggo friend HEP is having a gender reveal party at the end of the month. She asked me to help decorate and I couldn’t be more excited (I now have a whole board on Pinterest dedicated to it)! If you’re not familiar with this growing trend, the doctor finds out the sex, doesn’t tell the couple, and writes it down on a piece of paper. The couple takes it to a baker, who makes a cake with either pink or blue coloring inside! The couple cuts the cake at the party and reveals the gender!

Pretty Flowers - Some weeks you just need a little something extra to brighten your days. Yesterday, at lunch, I took a walk up to the local grocery store and bought some pretty blooms in bright colors. Even just seeing them on my desk in styrofoam cups made me happy.

Cards Against Humanity - Do you like the game Apple to Apples? Well, CAH is its evil, yet fabulous, twin. Be prepared to get a little offensive, raunchy, and totally inappropriate. Oh, and be prepared to have the most fun and laugh the hardest you have in a while.

White Jeans and Cute Flats – I broke out my J. Crew white jeans last weekend. They are sure to be a summer staple and I love them paired with these cute Kate Spade gold flats I found for a steal at Marshalls!

Lipstick – I have never been much of a lipstick person (except for maybe dress up as a kid), give me some lip gloss and I am good to go. But recently, My sister turned me onto Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow lipstick and I have been hooked on its beautiful color (once I got the hang of applying it that is!).

Memory Lane

Last Friday I got an email from the Alumni Director at my High School (I also went there for middle school). She was looking for some alumni to speak to the current senior class (soon-to-be graduates and new alumni), all 45 of them, about how The Key School prepared me for the real world.

At first I was a little hesitant. At 10 years out, would I know what to say? Maybe High School was too long ago. Maybe they wouldn’t be able to relate to my perspective. I decided, though, that as a semi-successful person (aka I have a job), I may have something to say that these kids (yes, I’m at a point in my life when 18 year-olds are kids) find useful. So, I accepted the offer.

The event was being held at the home of one of the seniors, but it happened to be in the neighborhood Key is nestled in. As soon as I got within the Hillsmere neighborhood limits, I felt immediately nostalgic. So much was exactly the same, and I thought of all those mornings I had taken the same drive down the road to school.

I was a little early, so I pulled into the school’s main parking lot and got out of my car. I passed the music and arts building, the preschool playground, the Dr. Seuss-inspired murals, the location of our outdoor graduation, and one of the many gazebos that dot the campus. Lots of memories from my 8 years at Key came rushing back. Sometimes as you grow farther from a place you forget just how special it is to you. It took me only 5 minutes to be fully reminded.

Visualization

Long before The Secret came out, and Oprah made it a world-wide phenomenon, my mom was telling me to visualize my goals. You want to score a goal in soccer? Imagine yourself doing it and believe that you can. Want to do well on a presentation? See yourself giving that A+ worthy presentation (actually practicing never hurts either). I think she got some of her belief in visualization from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, but she also lived, and breathed, goal setting and more importantly goal doing. My mom never did anything half-assed (except maybe that costume she hot glue-gunned together for Indian Day in 3rd grade, but you know what, even that rocked). She pictured what she wanted and went after it.

These days, as an adult, I think about her advice a lot (and not just because inspiration boards are so hot right now). I  realize how important it is to not just set some arbitrary goal, but to actually see it, feel it, and believe it.

I (try) to apply this to almost every workout. Since I generally workout right after work, I spend some time throughout the day thinking about what I want to accomplish at the gym that day. I see myself doing the various exercises. I imagine how it will feel to accomplish the day’s fitness goal. If I am going for a run, I visualize hitting the mile markers (I do this before and during the run).

I’ve begun to apply this to my new healthy eating kick as well. Thanks to the BodyBugg I know what my goals are for each day and I see myself reaching them every night.

I know it all sounds a little silly, but I genuinely attribute this visualization to my continued success at getting to the gym regularly, and my newfound success with the BodyBugg. While my fitness and healthy-living are now right on track, I’ve been feeling a little lost lately about the direction of my professional life. Seems like it’s a good time to apply Mom’s tried and true visualization techniques. Now all I need to figure out is what my goal is…
